No cat on a hot red roof

I searched far & wide for a pattern but gave up because I was over analyzing it. Finally when I was out throwing the trash the neighbours roof was staring at me..& voila there was my pattern. I did feel like a voyuer standing on a stool in my backyard trying to get closer look(at the roof..you sick people). So, I asked for their permission. Definitely better than getting the cops at our door.
Leena says the moral of this story is to help her take the trash out more often.

  1. lovely pattern.. and listen to Leena and you really might get much better subjects for photography too :-)

right at top of the image, there is some non-conforming pattern.. this could have been cropped out or better still, could have been avoided while framing the image.. tiles also look very cool when you turn the camera around and shoot them at an angle.. still a lovely shot and something that's out of the traditional box and yet shot right in the backyard.. cool

my complaint would be.. too soft dumma at least in my opinion.. could have been much sharper..was this as wide as you could get or you cropped it ? or did you try to get too close ? shots like this should be crisp all the way through.. or the out of focus parts should add to the image as if they are fading away or something similar..

check out some some examples at

  2. I did get close to it. I thought the non-conforming pattern added to the image..maybe not. I could maybe try a smaller aperture to get more depth & clarity, but don't see myself getting on the neighbours fence again.

  3. I just checked my EXIF data my setting was
f18 & 1/13th sec. Dunno if the grainy tiles & me being so close affect the sharpness. I could maybe get further away & that way get a sharper image.

  4. I think this may have happened.. unlike many other images that are posted.. you uploaded a bigger (aka 100% crop or something close to that)... while i prefer it that way and that tells me a lot more about the picture.. it can make a decent shot look less sharper.. unless you really used a tripod and ensured there was absolutely no shake whatsoever etc.. I would rather take rest of the discussion off line..

  5. Very nice picture, Ranjeet. Its a good time of the day when u took the picture as the lighting is good and even over most of the area. Did u shoot sometime in the evening?

This also resembles a pattern on the side of a cake, BTW. But hey, that could be my imagination.

  8. ahh...the spanish tiles. Great idea. What was the ISO? Did that result in the 'graininess"?

  9. Cool idea. Even I was wondering about the graininess of the picture..but it adds character.

  10. The granininess is infact the texture of the tile. I was so close to it that I got a little too much of the "pattern"
