Psychedelic Love

This is what popped into my mind as soon as I heard about the assignment. Dunno where it came from, I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fungi family. In all seriousness though, this is probably what the world needs..people of all colors coming together, shroom or no shroom.

It took forever to get the pencils aligned. Leena helped me get it right.

Lens: 50mm
fstop: 3.2
exp: 1/8s
ISO: 200

I had to do some post processing to straighten the picture & sharpen it a bit.

  1. very nice composition!

However the picture is a bit blurry when viewed full size. Couldn't tell where the focus point was.

  2. Let me try that again...with a much smaller aperture.
    Thx

  3. 1. I love the idea.. very vivid colors.. you didn't include the entire pencils and did a tight frame actually makes it look better.. The fact that the entire scene is not in sharp focus may not be a bad idea at all.. it adds to the picture..

    2. about much smaller aperture.. remember there is not much depth (of field) to work with this image.. pencils are probably a couple of centimeters thick.. you may want to use a tripod (if you didn't already) to get rid of some of the shake (1/8th of a second is pretty tight.. at least to my old/shaky hands)

    3. and while you are at it.. would love to see the same thing with a different background.. other than black.. just to see how it looks..

  4. I agree..my aperture point was wrong. I tried putting a tripod on..but where I have set this thing up, its almost impossible to put a tripod. So, I am going to let it rest for now. Might try another background tomorrow with a tripod..lets see

  5. Superb composition. Agree with @Preetu, there is some shake. Hand-held is not a good idea for 1/8s. Anything less that 1/60, u might want to use a tripod.
    Good job.

  6. ...the creativity is amazing. I'm wondering if it would be a little easier on the eye if there was more congruency with the colors? for example....red, blue, orange, yellow, green, red, blue, orange, yellow, green. maybe a repeating sequence?

    That said..great splash of colors...

  7. Nice work. Others have mentioned that the focus and/or depth of field could be improved. Looking at the tip of the white pencil on the left, it seems that there is some motion blur. I don't have any complaints about the background color, but in the hi-res image the dark areas show some noise. At first I wanted to mention that the tips of the pencils are not perfectly aligned in a heart shape, but i know it must have taken a lot of work to get it right. Maybe taping down the other ends of the pencils would have made it easier. ;^)
