Tea

What does tea look like as it is being prepared? I have always loved watching the infusion from the tea leaves as it colors the water a deep brownish-red. Adding milk to the mixture makes it go cloudy as it swirls around. This then is my attempt at capturing this swirling :)

I have done a bit of post-processing to adjust color levels and to crop the image. This really highlights my need for a polarizing filter - I would have liked to remove the reflections from the glass, but could not find any easy way to do it through photoshop.
Focal length - 55mm
Exposure - 1/6 sec
Aperture - F/4.8

Taken with the built-in D80 flash.

  1. Hi Jaidev.. Good concept.. reminds me of the tea/coffee ads :-)

did you take one without flash too .. some cross light may be would have enhanced the effect ..

A tripod would have helped make the image sharper..

  2. Thanks!

No, I didn't take one without the flash. I didn't think there was enough light in the room when I took the picture.

The camera was sitting on a table, so there really shouldn't have been much shake :-). I should probably have played with the aperture/shutter speed/ISO a little more.

  3. Remember the tea they serve in the little tea shops in Kerala? This kinda reminds me of that.

Real nice picture, Jaidev. Did u get an assistant to pour the milk into the glass when u were ready to take this picture? They did a good job with pouring since u don't see any drops of water on the glass due to splashing.

  4. ...like the concept of this marble-like fusion. The other feature improvement I could see is the affecting the glare and shadow caused by the indoor shot. ....but, i love frozen moment pictures...
